Boryspil International Airport is located in the city of the same name, 25 kilometres from the centre of Kyiv. It is the largest air harbour in Ukraine, accounting for more than 60% of passenger air traffic.
More than 50 airlines, both local and international, operate regular flights from Boryspil to 95 destinations. Moreover, it is the only airport in Ukraine that boasts regular transcontinental flights.
Boryspil Airport has two runways and consists of two terminals, F and D, the latter being the largest in the country. As for Terminal F, it is more oriented towards low-cost carriers. There are car parks located near both terminals, the use of which is free for the first 10-15 minutes (depending on the time of day).
There is free Wi-Fi in the waiting and arrival lounges of Terminal D, which is limited to a 30-minute session. There are also ATMs, currency exchange and a 24-hour luggage room within Terminal D.
According to the classification of the International Air Transport Association the airport Boryspil has a code ‘KBP’.
The official website of the airport is https://kbp.aero.
From the airport to Kyiv
To get to the Ukrainian capital, you should use one of the three available modes of transport:
- the Sky Bus,
- the Kyiv Boryspil Express train
- and, of course, taxis.
Let’s look at each option separately.
The easiest and cheapest way to get to Kiev from Boryspil Airport is to use services of Sky Bus. The bus No.322 is located at the exits of Terminal F and D. The bus makes only two stops on its way – at ‘Kharkivska’ metro station and at the ‘Pivdennyi’ railway station (terminal). The fare is 60 and 100 hryvnias respectively. One can buy tickets from the driver. The travel time from station to terminus is 45 minutes. Buses depart regularly, averaging every 15-20 minutes, so there is no need to worry about empty seats. You can check the timetable here – https://skybus.kiev.ua/airport.html.
Another inexpensive but less convenient option is the Kyiv Boryspil Express train, which connects the airport with the Darnitsa, Vydubychi and Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi railway stations. The platform is located near Terminal D. Why is this mode of transport less preferable? The point is that the express train runs towards Kyiv once an hour. So if you don’t make it in time, you’ll have to wait for the next train. The timetable is available here – https://kbp.aero/ru/kyev-boryspol-ekspress/. On the other hand the fare is quite democratic – 80 hryvnias, regardless of where you get off. The journey to the Kiev railway station takes 40 minutes. You can buy a ticket at special terminals at the D terminal using your bank card. It is also possible to pay the fare in cash at the ticket office on the platform.
A final alternative means of transport that guarantees a comfortable journey is the taxi service. As at every airport in the world, you don’t need to look for a taxi driver – they will find you. Right at the terminal exit. True, such efficiency will cost you a pretty penny, unlike a regular call from a mobile phone. In the latter case, the average bill to the city centre is 260 hryvnias and the journey takes 30 minutes.
From Boryspil Airport to Kyiv Airport (Zhuliany)
There are times when you need to get from Boryspil to the nearest airport – in this case Kyiv, formerly known as Zhuliany. The question then becomes: how to do it? Putting aside the most obvious option – taxi, we will stop at economical means of transport. There are no surprises here; you can use the Sky Bus and Kyiv Boryspil Express. In both cases you need to get to the very end – the railway station in Kiev. After that, there are two ways to reach your destination.
Bus No.368. The stop is located at the intersection of P. Pestel St. and Starovokzalnaya St. You can get there through a special crosswalk leading from the Central Railway Station building. A five-minute walk and you’re there! The bus stops 150 meters away from the airport’s terminal A. It’s an easy walk from here.
Trolleybus 92H. The stop is opposite the Southern Railway Station building. However, the trolleybus only runs at night – from 11 pm to 5:30 am. The trolleybus stops at the same place as bus No.368.
From Kyiv to Boryspil Airport
It’s not hard to guess that the cheapest way to get from the Ukrainian capital to Boryspil Airport is by Sky Bus and Kyiv Boryspil Express trains. Both in the first and second cases the starting point is the Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi station. The Sky Bus stop is located at the exit of the Southern Railway Station. As for the express train, it departs from platform 14. And the passengers of Kyiv Boryspil Express can wait for their departure at a special waiting room above the track. The above-mentioned payment methods are also valid here. Of course, you can get on Sky Bus or Kyiv Boryspil Express at one of the designated stops.
